IMA: The Association for Accounts and Financial Professionals in Business

For over 90 years, IMA has been a champion and resource for the financial management and accounting profession.

History

Founded as the National Association of Cost Accountants (NACA) in Buffalo, NY in 1919, the group promoted knowledge and professionalism among cost accountants and to foster a wider understanding of the role of cost accounting in management. The group name was later changed to the National Association of Accounts (NAA), and in 1991, the group name was finally changed to the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) to signify the profession’s broad role as the association for accounts and financial professionals working inside of organizations.
